We are developing the future of Army Aviation with the Bell Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) part of the US Army’s Future Vertical Lift (FVL) modernization effort. We are also developing the Bell 525 Relentless and Bell's High-Speed Vertical Take-Off and Landing (HSVTOL) program, a next generation stop-fold aircraft.

This position is onsite in Fort Worth.

Flight Safety

The Flight Safety organization is seeking a Flight Safety Officer (FSO) located at the Flight Research Center in Arlington, TX. The FSO will oversee, review and revise as necessary the comprehensive flight safety program for flight test operations including experimental test, demonstration, and corporate flights.

What you’ll be doing as a Flight Safety Officer

  • Work with the leaders of the Flight Operations and Flight Test departments to ensure their standard operating procedures (SOPs) support the company’s safety requirements.
  • Stay informed of the latest regulatory guidance and industry best practices pertaining to aviation safety. Disseminate new information and ensure company policies and procedures remain in compliance. Proved direct input to pilots, flight test engineers and aircrew by hosting safety stand downs and recurrent safety training.
  • Collaborate with Flight Test in developing, updating and approval of individual program’s Flight Test Risk Analyses Worksheets (FTRW).
  • Be a leader in Flight Test Risk Management through coordination with the Lead Flight Test Engineer of each program and by participating in flight test plan reviews, test flights, pre and post test flight briefings and test readiness reviews.
  • Collaborate in the development of and, amendments to, company flight operations and flight test documentation including flight operations manuals, flight test SOPs, local flight procedures, etc. This includes procedures involving ground handling of aircraft.
  • Collaborate with the Manager, Safety Management Systems (SMS) to ensure process and procedures support the overall working construct of the SMS and Just Culture.
  • Serve as a standing member of the Flight Test Management Committee.
  • Collaborate with Environmental Health and Safety to ensure each facility's inspectable areas are in compliance with the company's Flight Safety Audit Program and that the facility’s overall safety is enhanced.
  • Perform the duties as chase/support flight aircrew or aerial observer.

Qualifications

Skills you bring to the role

  • Graduate of a certified test pilot school
  • FAA Commercial Airplane license with Instrument rating
  • FAA Rotorcraft CFI/CFII rating
  • FAA ATP Rotorcraft-Helicopter
  • NVG flight experience
  • Maintenance, experimental, developmental or production flight test experience
  • Current FAA Class II physical.
  • 1500 hours PIC, helicopter or powered lift 
  • What you need to be successful
  • Bachelors Degree
  • 8 years aviation, 4 years aviation safety
  • Graduate of a certified test pilot school OR a military Aviation Safety Officer school
  • Advanced degrees will be considered as additional experience

Foundations of SETP

SETP Foundation

The Mission of the SETP Foundation is:

Education

  • To provide flight test educational programs by sponsoring symposia and disseminating educational materials in order to increase the safety and efficiency of flight test and enhance the professional knowledge of test pilots, astronauts, cosmonauts and other aerospace professionals in the field of research and development.
  • To provide mentors for educating our youth, while encouraging them to enter flight test or an aerospace-related profession.

Flight Test Safety

  • To initiate and sustain a flight test related safety organization intended to promote flight safety, reduce the risk of mishap, promote risk reduction management and continually improve the profession's communication and coordination.
  • To develop, implement and maintain a computerized data base, readily available to all members and member organizations, containing flight test-related data collected from the industry.

History

  • To be the world’s leading source of history relating to test pilots and their profession.
  • To preserve the historical significance of the accomplishments of test pilots, the SETP, and the aerospace industry by displaying memorabilia, written and oral records, reports, photographs, video, and other artifacts.
  • To archive and display such history in a manner that supports and enhances the efforts of flight test education and flight test safety for current and future generations of flight test personnel and the general public.

 

SETP Scholarship Foundation

The primary purpose of the Foundation is to receive, acquire, manage, administer and expend property and funds for scholarships and other forms of educational assistance to children of deceased or disabled Society members.

Scholarships were first awarded in 1967. Since that time the Scholarship Foundation has granted $2,800,000 in educational assistance to more than 140 students. Approximately 12 students per year are expected to attend school with Society assistance. The Scholarship Foundation is solely supported by individual contributions. For every dollar contributed to the Foundation, more than ninety-five cents goes directly to covering the educational expenses of the students. A contribution to the Scholarship Foundation is the ideal way to commemorate a Society member while helping support the children of deceased and disabled members.
