Intent of the process
Engineering Test Pilot – Fixed Wing (1 position) and Engineering Test Pilot – Rotary Wing (1 position)

Engineering Test Pilot Duties:

Transport Canada directly contributes to the Safety and Security of Canadians on a daily basis. As an Engineering Test Pilot in the National Aircraft Certification, Civil Aviation Branch at Transport Canada you will be required to:

  • Determine the flight test program necessary for the aircraft certification approval.
  • Act as test pilot flight crew member to conduct flight tests necessary for certification and to audit manufacturers' production standards.
  • Develop new regulations and new advisory guidance material including acceptable flight test techniques.
  • Review qualifications and provide technical recommendations for ministerial delegation authorization to individuals and organizations for design approval flight testing of aeronautical products.
  • Maintain flight test specific piloting skills and participate in professional development and skills enhancement training as required by the Department.

Essential Qualifications

  • Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in engineering, mathematics, science, or in a field relevant to the duties of the position or eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada,

and successful completion of a one-year Engineering Test Pilot course recognized by Transport Canada or minimum of five years of experience as an experimental / developmental test pilot with a manufacturer of civil certified transport category aircraft.

  • Significant engineering flight test experience as a pilot in command (PIC) of number of aircraft types.
  • Significant experience as engineering test pilot.
  • Knowledge of civil airworthiness certification design standards.
  • Significant knowledge of aircraft operations, flight test techniques, aerodynamics, stability and control, performance, power plants and aircraft system operation.
