Boeing has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Experimental Test Pilot to join our team in Berkeley, MO (St Louis surrounding area).  In this role, you will be part of a high performing, cross functional team building next generation, state-of-the-art capabilities.  Boeing’s Testbed Operation includes a fleet of twin-engine turbo-prop and business jet aircraft that are uniquely modified to develop new technologies for Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) programs within Air Dominance, Phantom Works, and many others.  The candidate’s primary responsibility will be to operate the highly modified multi-crew aircraft for research and development. 

A successful candidate will have experience contributing to flight test modification designs; conducting testbed engineering assessments; and coordinating, planning, and executing ground and flight tests on test bed aircraft.  Additionally, candidates should be proficient in the application of standardized test techniques to meet safety requirements and test objectives.

This position will require proof of FAA First Class Medical certificate and appropriate FAA Airmen certificate prior to starting in this position and requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Restriction: Appropriate regulatory certification and/or license required.  Entry into this classification is limited to candidates approved by the enterprise-wide Flight Operations Skills Team.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Plans and conducts engineering and experimental test flights

  • Serves as Pilot-In-Command for testbed aircraft

  • Evaluates modified aircraft for configuration performance and handling qualities changes

  • Facilitates the Boeing Safety Management System, including test safety processes

  • Coordinates with engineering, manufacturing and airworthiness personnel on certification efforts to ensure design integrity 

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

This position requires ability to obtain program access, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship only.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • Commercial Certificate or FAA ATP with appropriate endorsements or military equivalent

  • Ability to obtain an FAA First Class Medical certificate

  • 1,000 flight hours as Pilot in Command of turbine powered jet aircraft

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Test Pilot School (TPS) Graduate

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering

  • Experimental flight test experience in special mission or testbed aircraft

  • FAA type rating in Beechcraft King Air, Bombardier Challenger 650 or Global Express Global Vision, or similar sized business aircraft

  • Developmental test experience with advanced fighter mission systems

Typical Education/Experience: 

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
