Paper abstract:
During the birth of the Flight Test Safety Committee (FTSC), vintage early 1990s, a T&E CRM program was developed at the Air Force Flight Test Center (AFFTC) simultaneously. This program was beneficial to the AFFTC but was not widely known to the flight test communityingeneral. Rod Huete with John Nance made a T&E CRM presentation at the SETP S&B in 1993 pointing out the benefits of such program citing several real examples of close calls due to lack of CRM among test crews.

On January 19th, 1995, two years later, NASA (Dryden) lost one of their X-31 fighter demonstrators in an accident where there were several T&E CRM issues contributing to the accident.

The presentation will depict, via videos, a comparison between the AFFTC T&E CRM program and the similar events that contributedto the X-31 accident. The question for us today is: how relevant are our CRM programs to the test & evaluation team concept?
