The Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Infrastructure Operations organization is seeking a Director of Flight Test operations to join our team of qualified, diverse leaders. This position will be located in Linthicum, MD and will report to the MS Sector Infrastructure Operations Director.

The successful candidate will provide senior oversight to the Flight Test Operations organization that is responsible for providing flight test capabilities for the development, assessment and demonstration of NGMS products and systems.

Responsibilities Include:

  • •Overall management of test aircraft fleet and operations, including test pilots, aircraft engineers and maintenance activities.
  • •Responsible for compliance with specification and operational suitability, production acceptance, and flight test support of the products / systems through specifically prescribed tests and maneuvers.
  • •Responsible for operational risk assessment / management of our modifications and flight profiles.
  • •Conducting demonstration flights with customers, government officials, or other personnel aboard to exhibit system performance and capabilities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • •Bachelor’s Degree plus 10 years progressive/related leadership experience with a minimum of 5 years test pilot experience.
  • •Must be a certified test pilot through a nationally recognized military test pilot school, or equivalent military training.
  • •Minimum 1500 hours First Pilot (USN/USMC) or Primary (USAF) flight time in turbojet, turbofan or turboprop aircraft.  
  • •A commercial pilot certification.
  • •Experience in civilian /FAA certifications and requirements.
  • •Current, active, Secret Clearance required. Ability to secure a Top-Secret Clearance is also required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • •Past experience in aircraft modifications, configuration and control, and technical / operational review boards. Familiar with government test organizations, ranges and processes.
  • •Experience with Airworthiness Programs and requirements.

C-130 Flight Test Pilot

Position Title: C-130 Flight Test Pilot

Worksite: Eglin AFB, FL.

The 417th Flight Test Squadron is looking for a qualified fixed wing test pilot! As part of the 96th Test Wing at Eglin AFB, FL, the 417th performs Developmental Testing on a wide range of C-130s.  From AC-130s to MC-130s, from legacy C-130Hs to C-130Js, we test them all. You will work as part of a close team with our AFSOC, USSOCCOM, AMC, ANG and AFRC customers, developing the next generation of C-130 capabilities.  This is an NH-IV/GS-14 Civil Service position.

Required Education, Training & Experience Criteria:

  1. Flight test experience is required.
  2. Previous C-130 instructor pilot qualification/experience is required.
  3. Ability to conduct developmental C-130 flight test at the most critical test conditions of loading, speed, maneuvering, and configuration.  Ability to determine maximum limits of safe aircraft operation and aerodynamic stability where a substantial degree of hazard exists.
  4. In-depth knowledge of USAF aircraft operations, aircrew training, aircrew standardization and evaluation, aerospace resource management, aerospace test and evaluation, and aircrew personnel equipment and survival training is required. 
  5. A minimum of 1750 flight hours, including a minimum of 50 hours of night flying and 50 hours of instrument flying.
  6. Technical Bachelor’s Degree.
  7. Applicant must meet periodic USAF Class II medical standards as required by Air Force instructions.
  8. The incumbent must maintain aircraft flight qualification IAW AFI 11-202v2 and applicable MAJCOM procedures/directives.

Desired Education, Training & Experience Criteria:

  1. Graduate of a sanctioned Test Pilot course or school is highly desired.
  2. Ten years of military pilot rated officer experience with active military flight experience within the last 4 years is highly desired.
  3. Special Operations C-130 experience is highly desired.
  4. AFSOC experience is desired.
  5. Evaluator pilot experience is desired. 
  6. Functional Check Flight experience is desired.

Following the successful launch of our Joint Venture Test Pilot School, the Test Flying Academy of South Africa are looking to fill a number of additional new Test Pilot & Test Pilot Tutor positions in both Fixed Wing and Rotary Wing disciplines.

We require contract test pilots for a number of short term projects and test pilot tutors on a permanent contract basis. There may be the possibility of flowing from one role into the other. We can accommodate many different desired working patterns.

 Required Education, Training & Experience Criteria:

  1. Test Pilot Graduate of either USAF TPS, USNTPS, ETPS or EPNER test pilot schools (Full 12 month/Cat 1/Class A course)
