GREGORY V. LEWIS (F)
NATIONAL TEST PILOT SCHOOL


Greg is the Deputy Director of the National Test Pilot School in Mojave, California. Greg is current in eleven different aircraft ranging from gliders to the C-47 to the supersonic SK-35 Draken. He is also a classroom instructor for performance and flying qualities, military acceptance and civil certification. He is an FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER) as both a Test Pilot and a Flight Test Engineer for Part 23 and 25 aircraft. Greg has over 7,000 hours in more than 100 different aircraft.

Prior to joining the NTPS, Greg served in the US Air Force, retiring after 20 years. During that time, Greg flew a combat tour in F-4’s and spent 14 years in flight test assignments at both Eglin and Edwards AFB. Test projects included F-16 initial development tests and the STOL/Maneuver Technology Demonstrator F-15.

Greg has BS and MS degrees from MIT in aeronautical engineering and an MS degree in engineering management from Golden Gate University. He graduated from the USAF Test Pilot School in 1978 and later served there as an instructor from 1985 to 1987.

Society activities include service on the Membership Committee and nine years on the Board of Directors, both in elected positions and as Technical Advisor. He has contributed technical papers to Cockpit and has given five different papers at SETP symposia, receiving best paper awards twice, once at the European symposium and once in San Diego. Greg has also supported the Annual Symposium and Banquet twice by acting as Chairman of the Technical Sessions and later served as General Chairman of the 50th S&B.
